ELIA LUCIANI, Durham, Ontario

ELIA LUCIANI, Durham, Ontario

This photo was taken in December, 2018. It is where I now live with many old people. I have lots of pictures in my room. I think they are of my family. I don't feel alone when I am by myself. I see pictures and I smile.

This photo was taken on the Chemung River in 2017. I decided that I wanted to learn how to kayak and so I bought a kayak. I ended up starting a kayaking club in 2016 and was awarded "Volunteer of the Year" by the The Chemung River Friends at their annual meeting.

Having an Alzheimer's diagnosis doesn't stop me from trying new activities. I love kayaking!

SUSAN RIOULT, Rouen, France

This photograph was taken a few months ago by Susan in the room she occupies at the rest home. Susan always has this photograph with her. I think that reassures her. When I asked her to photograph something she likes to watch, she went directly to the furniture where the photograph of her and her husband was.

This image brings me a feeling of tenderness because it represents love. A love that persists despite illness.
